Well the last week class we have been studying the use of free software in Public Administration desktops and subjects related with it. So for example there has been spanish public administrations that has already migrated to free software succesfully as in Extremadura and Andalucia.

Why talk about this public administrations?, well basicaly because most people you know could say “I don’t care about software I have never payed for licenses and sfuff..”, but the true is that they have actually done it because as a regular citizen they actually have to pay to the public administrations and this administrations have to spend in this licenses. So in the end is a pay chain that when you start to think about it, one way or another a bit of your money ended up paying for software licenses.

So this is a good way to show why is a good thing that public administrations should be using free software. Also talking about the general public administration laws in Spain they have clauses which suggest that the software that this Public Administration uses should be technology neutral and should not force the users to buy an specific software or make them necessarily use one technology. So this is encouraging that at least in Public Administrations the use of proprietary software should not be supported.
