Looks like in the next release of GNOME 3 there will be the surprise that there will be no minimize buttons or maximize buttons either. For me it seems like GNOME is looking for minimalisms, in order to get a slicker interface.
For others who make a lot of use of this buttons maybe it will be like the end of the world but then again we all have to realize that the buttons are gone, but the functionality remains and always will be there. So there will be plenty of ways for minimizing and maximizing windows, in the end it’s just matter of getting used to. For instance you could always be able to minimize using alt + F9 or maximize and unmaximize double clicking the title bar.
The point of this changes is to make a more natural interface and make it more friendly. For example once this buttons are removed. The only close button could be at the right corner or left corner, leaving the tittle the space to be centered which is more desirable.
So I believe this is just a management decision from GNOME community which promises what we’ll hope to be some good major changes in the develop of new user interfaces
